A disease caused by Varicella-Zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. The virus is latent and then reactivated, possibly by stress, causing a new outbreak of the virus with vesicles similar to chickenpox except the infection follows cutaneous sensory nerves, causing nerve infections and pain; also called shingles.
